The preview redraws as you go. This is exactly the page that prints.

This free maze maker draws a new maze every time, from a very easy 7 x 9 for small children to a very hard 34 x 43. Every maze has exactly one route from Start to Finish. The answer pages show that route drawn in red.

How to make a maze

  1. Give it a title. It prints across the top of the page.
  2. Pick a level. The five levels are below.
  3. Choose how many mazes, from 1 to 20, and how many go on a page: 1, 2 or 4.
  4. Choose your paper: US Letter or A4.
  5. Print it, or download the PDF. The mazes come first, then the answers.

Press New mazes for a fresh set at the same level.

The five levels

Sizes are in squares, across by down.

LevelSizeGood for
Very easy7 x 9Ages 3 to 5, crayons, first mazes
Easy11 x 14Early grades
Medium16 x 20Older children, a quick one for adults
Hard24 x 30A real sit-down maze
Very hard34 x 43Adults with a sharp pencil

The page size stays the same, so a bigger maze means smaller squares. Very hard works best one to a page.

Maze ideas

  • A road-trip packet. Twenty mazes, four to a page, stapled. That's five sheets of paper and a quiet back seat.
  • Mix the levels in a classroom. Print a stack at easy and a stack at hard, and let early finishers move up.
  • Big squares for small hands. Very easy, one to a page, gives a three-year-old room to steer a crayon.

Printing and the answers

Each maze has Start at the top and Finish at the bottom. The answer pages draw the one correct route in red, up to four answers to a page. Untick Print the answers to print the mazes alone. The Answer key button above the preview shows them on screen first.

If the PDF won't download, press Print and choose "Save as PDF".

Maze maker: questions

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no sign-up, no ads, nothing to install.

Does every maze have exactly one answer?

Yes. These are what puzzle makers call perfect mazes: every square connects, there are no loops, and only one route runs from Start to Finish. A separate checker tests each maze as it will print before you see it, and again on the full sheet.

Will I get the same maze twice?

Not in practice. Every press of New mazes draws a new set.

Can I sell puzzles I make here?

Yes. Use them for anything: classrooms, newsletters, party games, or your own puzzle books for sale. You don't need to ask or pay. Free sheets keep one small line at the bottom of each page with our name and web address. A Pro version, coming later, will make sheets without that line and export a whole book at once.
